Mini-Project #5 Superfund site
The E.P.A.'s website is too complicated and extraneous to use with ease, and its impossible to understand through them about superfund sites... Oh Well...

Mini-Project #4 Genetically Altered Foods
Partial List of Genetically Engineered Foods Center for Food SafetySeptember 1st, 1999 |
This is a list of processed foods that tested positive for genetically engineered ingredients. These tests were not "safety" tests; they were only to establish the presence of unlabeled genetically engineered ingredients.
Sources: Genetic ID (an independent testing firm) and Consumer Reports (September 1999). |

Mini-Project #3 Endangered Species
Instead of creating my own list from another list, I decided to post this list to show the immense amount of species in Florida that are threatened and endangered. When people think of endangered species the automatically think of Mammals, avians and reptiles. They tend to forget about the insects, fish and plant life that is also endangered.

Mini-Project #1 Environmenal Organization
In looking at the three environmental organizations; Greenpeace, The NRDC, and the Wild Spots foundation. I am most inclined to join Wildspots or The NRDC. I like how The NRDC emphasizes the use of the law to back up their use of science to promote their mission statement.
Greenpeace in their mission makes it sound like they are a bunch of "treehuggers" yelling at the top of their lungs for change and they are lobbying for that. I know thats probably a misconception, but thats how they come off on their website as well as popular media. "Screaming at the wind..."
I very much liked the mission statement of the Wild Spots Foundation. They have a very worldly approach; their mission is "to serve conservation beyond utilitarian reasons by incorporating a sense of stewardship and ownership, which protect the world's valuable wild spots (ecosystems and associated biodiversity) in return for the physical, aesthetic and spiritual sustenance it offers for generations to come. "
Ultimately I see no reason not to join all three. All have been effective in their mission statements, and all have made great efforts in protecting and preserving the environment.
